Inspiring Message in S.P.I.N. Foundation's "Race to Remember"
Las Vegas, NV August 28, 2002 On August 7, 2002, Scott Haws, the weekday television anchor for NBC affiliate KVBC in Las Vegas, began a 35-day, 3,335-mile bicycle ride from Los Angeles to New York on behalf of the S.P.I.N. (Supporting People in Need) Foundation, a fund-raising organization whose goal is "to help us remember what we can accomplish when we come together for a common cause as we did following September 11, 2001." Instead of competing for funding with other charitable organizations, S.P.I.N. selects established, worthy organizations and helps raise money on their behalf. Haws is scheduled to arrive in New York on September 11, 2002 to mark the one-year anniversary of the attacks on the city. Director and founder of S.P.I.N., Haws will be raising money in every city and state through which he travels from pledges and donations which will go to local charities already designated. Haws' goal is to raise $1 million for the S.P.I.N. Foundation.
S.P.I.N. has garnered support from a large number of companies, both large and small, for this inaugural cross-country fund-raising event. Santa Rosa, Calif.-based CLEAR FOCUS Imaging is pleased to be one of the many supporters of this project. The company donated the perforated vinyl film used for the window graphics of the chase vehicle, a Dodge Durango, and for portions of the windows of the RV that houses the crew each night. Design, production and application of the graphics were provided by Signs Now of Las Vegas, Nevada, under the direction of Terry Whalen. Other supporters include Sprint, InteliCoat (formerly Rexam Image Products), Nike, Albertsons, Trek and Bank of America. Such support allows S.P.I.N. to direct the maximum amount of donations to those in need instead of to administrative and material costs.
